"Proud" Journal

My delightful and mischievous baby girl turned two years old yesterday. Where did the time go?!

The weeks (and months) after Bridget's birth were pretty difficult for me. The recovery was slow; the baby blues (too cute of a name for something so evil) were rough. I sobbed and wailed about being a failure as a mother and a wife. I sniffled and cried over feelings of worthlessness and thoughts of, "I can't do anything right." Anxiety kept me up at night; depression was my constant companion throughout the day.

Under A Yucatan Sun

The hot Mexican air was thick with a humidity that seemed to climb into our lungs and cling to our skin. The vibrant green jungle--with it's gnarly trees and twisting vines--was so dense I could not see beyond the first line of foliage that hugged the road.

We walked. The trees parted. And that was when I saw it...

The Kukulkan Pyramid in Chichen Itza, which is now one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Uplift Families

I have always been a self-professed "word nerd." Those of you who read this blog (Hi, Mom!) know that I mention this often.

I love learning new words. I love learning about where they come from and what they mean. I think language is fascinating. I confess to frequently looking up the definitions of words in the dictionary. (I may or may not highlight the ones that I especially like...I'll never tell! Because admitting that takes me to a whole other level of nerdy!)
